The Malachite Room

Louis XIV used this as his "Cabinet of the Sunset" and later on it became the bedchamber of the Duchesse de Bourgogne before it finally became Napoleon's drawing room. The Malachite Room has been given its name because Napoleon placed the malachite presents from Tzar Alexander I in this room. These malachite presents were produced in 1809, designed by Percier and created by Jacob-Desmalter. For a period of time the malachite pieces were stored at the Tuileries but were moved to the Grand Trianon in 1811 because Napoleon thought that a larger room was needed to properly display the malachite. The paintings are the works of Charles de la Fosse.
